Our Story

The Hatchery Foundation is just beginning, and we are incredibly excited about what it can become.

The Foundation grew from the lived experience of our founder, Dre Eagle, LMSW, and her belief that people navigating grief deserve more ways to find

connection, community, and support.

Just over a year into her sobriety and recovery from alcohol use disorder, Dre's 24 year old daughter, Jordan, was killed in an alcohol related car accident.

Suddenly, Dre was navigating unimaginable grief while also doing everything she could to protect the sobriety she had worked so hard to build. She knew she

needed support, but when she attended the only grief support group she could find in her area, she quickly realized it wasn't the right fit for her.

So she began finding her own way.

Nature had already become an important part of Dre's recovery. After Jordan's death, it became an important part of navigating grief too. Hiking, movement,

meditation, time outdoors, connection with others, and simply having somewhere to go became part of how she continued putting one foot in front of the other.

That experience planted the seed for The Hatchery Foundation.

Dre wanted to create some of the things she had desperately needed herself: accessible grief support, community, opportunities to gather outside of traditional settings,

and spaces where people could talk, walk, sit, connect, or simply be around others who understood.

Today, that vision is beginning to take shape through community grief support groups, Hiking Through Grief, coaching, Reiki, and other community based programs and gatherings.

And we are just getting started.

As The Hatchery Foundation grows, we look forward to developing additional free and affordable programs, workshops, outdoor experiences, retreats, educational opportunities, and community partnerships. We don't believe there is one right way to navigate grief. We believe in creating more places to find your way through it.

You don't have to carry it alone.
